ENTHRONEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS AND CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

The Enthronement is more than a blessing of the Sacred Heart picture for the home. It is the dedication of a person and family to the Divine Heart of Jesus, for us to live in union with Him by love, grace, and obedience to His Commandments. The Enthronement brings countless graces and blessings, as enumerated in the Twelve Great Promises that Jesus made to St. Margaret Mary.

Prayers for the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

LEADER

Almighty and Everlasting God, bless and sanctify this Image of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Grant that whoever humbly strives to honor and serve Him, may obtain through His merits and intercession, grace in this life and everlasting happiness in the world to come. Let us pray.

ALL

Eternal Father, we consecrate ourselves, all living and deceased members of our family, and our home, to the Sacred Heart of Your Son Jesus. May we return His most tender love, as He comes into the midst of our family to live and share our life in a special way from this day on.

We accept you, Sacred Heart of Jesus, as our loving King and Head of our family. Stay with us, Lord! Sanctify

our joys and comfort us in all our sorrows. May your Holy Spirit enlighten each of us to continually be aware of Your special Presence among us, especially in one another. Help us to have a deep and loving respect

for one another so that we may live this Consecration everyday.

Let our love go beyond our home into the world. Guide us to do our part to win other families to Your Sacred Heart. Create through us a real community among the priests and families of our parish and of the whole world. Amen.

Prayers for the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

ALL

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary and tender Mother of all, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart and the request of the Pope, His Vicar on earth, we consecrate our families and those of the whole world to your Immaculate Heart.

Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother Mary, and use all of us as you wish, to accomplish your designs upon the world, for peace and for the salvation of all souls.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, and of our family, rule over us always in union with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Amen.

Guide for Carrying Out the Enthronement

1.       Before the Enthronement ceremony begins, first choose a special location in your home where the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart images can be framed and contemplated. The location should be a place where the family gathers such as the living room or the kitchen.

2.       As a family, gather and recite the prayers from the Enthronement Scroll and place the pictures in the special location. You may add a Litany to the Sacred Heart or other relevant prayers if desired. Finally, using your own words, pray for Jesus and Mary to guide and protect your family.

3.       Have each family member sign their name at the bottom of the Enthronement Scroll. Keep this Scroll for future gatherings.

Suggestions for Living Out the Enthronement Devotion

•               Arrange for regular Enthronement gatherings as a family. Set aside at least 15 minutes a week to pray together and talk about some lived experiences

of God’s love. Feel free to create your own format for these gatherings as long as they promote comfortable and prayerful conversation.

•               Consider making one of the Twelve Great Promises a point of meditation and discussion each month.

•               Praying the Rosary, especially as a family, helps make each home a place of holy contemplation and is a powerful way of staying united to Jesus and Mary.

•               Prayers such as the ones included in the Enthronement Package are recommended for promoting intimacy with the Sacred Heart throughout the busyness of the day.

•               Try making the First Friday and First Saturday Devotions in reparation to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts.

The Enthronement Devotion

The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart is, according

to St. Teresa of Calcutta, “the best way to bring Jesus back into the family life.” It is a declaration of loyalty

to Jesus and a profession of His Kingship in the home and in the world. It unifies a family under the loving

Queenship of our Blessed Virgin Mary and consecrates the family to her motherly intercession. This act of

adoration to the Sacred Heart in the home is also an act of love for the Eucharist, because devotion to the

Sacred Heart and devotion to the Holy Eucharist are inseparable.
