The Enthronement Devotion
Prayer Booklet
The Enthronement is more than a blessing of the Sacred Heart picture for the home.
It is the dedication of a person and family to the Divine Heart of Jesus, for us to live in union with Him by love, grace, and obedience to His Commandments.
The Enthronement brings countless graces and blessings, as enumerated in the Twelve Great Promises that Jesus mad to St. Margaret Mary.
This booklet is a simple compilation of some of the Enthronement Ministry’s favorites prayers, most of them directed specifically to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts.
Foreword
I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!
John 16:33
Living out the Enthronement Devotion by entering into a deeper relationship with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary will necessarily involve inner
struggle and ongoing conversion. It is not going to magically give you an easy life or a flourishing interior life of prayer. You aren’t likely to suddenly begin having visions of Jesus or Mary either. What probably will happen is that you’ll still have to deal with the same temptations and the same wounds you bear each day. However, this is no reason to be discouraged at all.
The point of the Enthronement Devotion is that you might be encouraged. If we look at the meaning of the word “encourage” it means “to give heart.” Performing the Enthronement encourages us in the strict meaning of the word–it gives us heart, specifically the Heart of Jesus himself!
As you begin to realize this great gift, you may find that things which previously seemed impossible begin to become easier. You may slowly see yourself desiring a little more time for prayer or silent contemplation after the example of Mary, who “pondered the things of God in her heart.” You may begin to be delighted and enriched by the holy Word of God in the Bible, and no longer intimidated or bored by it. You may be surprised as you realize the role God has for you in the ongoing work of Salvation in the world.
The Enthronement Devotion exists to allow regular people in our day and age to lose themselves in the timeless Mystery of God, “the Lord of hosts, before whom we stand” (1 Kings 18:15). All that is needed on our part is a small “yes.” Like Mary we only have to give our consent, saying “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).
Taking Jesus and Mary as the great Lord and Lady of your home will begin with the Enthronement which you complete in your home. However, where it will end is completely up to you and how far you wish to take it.
Brief Background for the Enthronement Devotion
The Enthronement is a development of the traditional Sacred Heart of Jesus devotion which began in the Middle Ages and culminated in the revelations of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French Visitation nun in the seventeenth century.
Jesus accompanied St. Margaret Mary throughout her life in visions which emphasized His personal and passionate love. He revealed to her the ways in which He desires men and women to adore His Sacred Heart, such as through a special feast
day and through the Nine First Fridays devotion. He also gave her certain promises which would be granted to those who faithfully adored His Sacred Heart. They are as follows:
1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
2. I will establish peace in their families.
3. I will console them in all their troubles.
4. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death.
5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Tepid souls shall become fervent.
8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
9. I will bless the homes in which an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.
12. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under My displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.
These promises make clear the transformation Jesus desires for each of us through the mystery of His Sacred Heart. It was given as a special gift to our age which is marked by fragmentation, indifference, and cruelty.
In the twentieth century, South American Priest Father Mateo Crawley-Boevey saw the pressing need for people to honor the Sacred Heart within their homes (Promise 9) to counter the spreading secularization of culture and weakening of morals. He became an apostle commissioned by Pope St. PiusX to spread what became known as the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart.
In continuing to promote and spread this devotion, the Enthronement Ministry participates in a long history of devotion to the Sacred Heart. We hope to continue the work of St. Margaret Mary and the holy Fr. Mateo by introducing the radical love of Jesus to every home. The history of the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart can be explored in depth on our website enthronement.org. There is also information about St. Margaret Mary Alacoque’s life and revelations for further reading.
Finally, we have included several prayers in this booklet which we believe beautifully capture the spirit of the Enthronement Devotion. Many are written by well-known and well-beloved saints of the last two centuries who nourished a deep love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We hope these prove fruitful for you as you strive to become a man or woman “after the Lord’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14).
Daily Offering Prayer
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.
Prayer To Follow Holy Communion
by Gabrielle Bossis Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, may the whole world burn with love for You!
St. Therese of Lisieux’s Morning Offering to the Sacred Heart
O my God! I offer You all my actions of this day for the intentions and for the glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every beat of my heart, my every thought, my simplest works, by uniting them to Its infinite merits; and I wish to make reparation for my sins by casting them into the furnace of Its Merciful Love.
O my God! I ask You for myself and for those whom I hold dear, the grace to fulfill perfectly Your Holy Will, to accept for love of You the joys and sorrows of this passing life, so that we may one day be united together in Heaven for all Eternity. Amen.
Prayer to St. Margaret Mary
St. Margaret Mary, permitted by the Sacred Heart of Jesus to become partaker of the divine treasures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, obtain for us, we beg you, from that adorable Heart, the graces we need. We ask for them with boundless confidence. May the divine Heart of Jesus be willing to grant them to us through your intercession, so that once again He may, through you, be glorified and loved. Amen.
V. Pray for us, O blessed Margaret,
R. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: O Lord Jesus Christ, who wondrously opened the unsearchable riches of your heart to blessed Margaret Mary the virgin: grant unto us, by her merits and our imitation of her, that we may love You in all things and above all things, and may be worthy to have our everlasting dwelling in the same Sacred Heart, Who lives and reigns world without end. Amen.
St. John Henry Newman’s Prayer
Most Sacred, most loving Heart of Jesus,
You are concealed in the Holy Eucharist,
and You beat for us still.
Now, as then, You say: “With desire I have desired.”
I worship You with all my best love and awe,
with fervent affection,
with my most subdued, most resolved will.
For a while You take up Your abode within me.
O make my heart beat with Your Heart!
Purify it of all that is earthly,
all that is proud and sensual,
all that is hard and cruel,
of all perversity,
of all disorder,
of all deadness.
So fill it with You
that neither the events of the day,
nor the circumstances of the time,
may have the power to ruffle it;
but that in Your love and Your fear,
it may have peace.
Amen.

Amen.

St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Act of Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary
O Immaculata, Queen of Heaven and earth, refuge of sinners and our most loving Mother, God has willed to entrust the entire order of mercy to you. I, (name), a repentant sinner, cast myself at your feet humbly imploring you to take me with all that I am and have, wholly to yourself as your possession and property. Please make of me, of all my powers of soul and body, of my whole life, death and eternity, whatever most pleases you.
If it pleases you, use all that I am and have without reserve, wholly to accomplish what was said of you: “She will crush your head,” and, “You alone have destroyed all heresies in the world.” Let me be a fit instrument in your immaculate and merciful hands for introducing and increasing your glory to the maximum in all the many strayed and indifferent souls, and thus help extend as far as possible the blessed kingdom of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus. For wherever you enter, you obtain the grace of conversion and growth in holiness, since it is through your hands that all graces come to us from the most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
V. Allow me to praise you, O sacred Virgin.
R. Give me strength against your enemies.
The Magnificat - The Prayer of Mary
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Rosary is a combination of vocal prayers and meditations on the key events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. It is useful for those wishing to begin a deeper prayer life because it introduces vocal, meditative, and contemplative prayer into daily life. It is broken up into four sets of five mysteries:
THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES
(Prayed on Mondays and Saturdays, Sundays of Advent and Christmas)
The Annunciation
The Visitation
The Nativity of Our Lord,
The Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple, and
The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple
THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
(Prayed on Thursdays)
The Baptism in the Jordan,
The Wedding Feast at Cana,
The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God,
The Transfiguration, and
The Institution of the Eucharist
THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
(Prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays, Sundays of Lent)
The Agony in the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar The Crowning with Thorns
The Carrying of the Cross, and
The Crucifixion of Our Lord
THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES
(Prayed on Sundays and Wednesdays)
The Resurrection
The Ascension
The Descent of the Holy Spirit,
The Assumption of Mary, and
The Coronation of Mary
How to pray the Rosary:
1. Start with The Sign of the Cross.
2. Hold the Crucifix of your Rosary beads and pray the Apostles’ Creed.
3. On the next bead pray one Our Father.
4. For the next three beads pray three Hail Marys (traditionally in petition for growth in Faith, Hope, and Charity).
5. On the next bead pray one Glory Be.
6. Then announce the First Mystery of the Rosary for the day, which is to be meditated on during the course of the first “decade” of prayers. These correspond to the number of beads.
7. Pray one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, one Glory Be, and one Fatima Prayer.
8. Repeat this for the next four Mysteries of the day.
9. After the final decade, it is customary to pray the Hail, Holy Queen and the additional closing prayer found below.
10. End with The Sign of the Cross.
APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
FATIMA PRAYER
Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.
CLOSING PRAYERS
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray. O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
The Divine Mercy Chaplet
Jesus entrusted this chaplet of prayers to St. Faustina Kowalska as a way of interceding for sinners on earth, and obtaining God’s mercy for them. It is especially effective when said for the sick and dying, but it can be said for any intention. Jesus says “It pleases Me to grant everything you ask of Me by saying the chaplet” (Diary, 1541).
This chaplet is prayed using regular Rosary beads.
1. Begin with The Sign of the Cross
2. Pray on the first bead: You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.
3. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You! (Repeat three times)
4. Pray on the next three beads one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Apostles’ Creed.
5. On the next bead pray
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
6. For the next ten beads pray
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
7. Repeat this for the remaining decades of beads.
8. Conclude with this prayer
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Repeat three times)
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.
9. Finish with The Sign of the Cross.
Prayer of St. Faustina (Diary, 1183)
O Jesus, I want to live in the present moment,
to live as if this were the last day of my life.
I want to use every moment scrupulously
for the greater glory of God,
to use every circumstance for the benefit of my soul.
I want to look upon everything,
from the point of view that nothing happens without the will of God.
God of unfathomable mercy, embrace the whole world
and pour Yourself out upon us
through the merciful Heart of Jesus.
Amen.

THE FIVE DECADE PRAYERS
The Our Father
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory*, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen. (Repeat ten times.)
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, open the hearts and minds of sinners to the truth and light of God, the Father.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for the conversion of sinners and the world
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
(Repeat the DECADE PRAYERS five times.)
Prayer to the Holy Face St. Therese
O Jesus, who, in Thy cruel Passion didst become the ‘reproach of men and the Man of Sorrows,’ I worship Thy divine Face. Once it shone with the beauty and sweetness of the Divinity; but now, for my sake, it is become as ‘the face of a leper.’ Yet, in that disfigured Countenance, I recognize Thy infinite love, and I am consumed with the desire of making Thee loved by all mankind. The tears that flowed so abundantly from Thy Eyes are to me as precious pearls that I delight to gather, that with their worth I may ransom the souls of poor sinners.
O Jesus, whose Face is the sole beauty that ravishes my heart, I may not see here below the sweetness of Thy glance, nor feel the ineffable tenderness of Thy kiss, I bow to Thy Will—but I pray Thee to imprint in me Thy divine likeness, and I implore Thee so to inflame me with Thy love, that it may quickly consume me, and that I may soon reach the vision of Thy glorious Face in heaven.
Amen.
