Sorrowful Mother Devotions
Content of the Prayer Card:
This image of Our Lady of Sorrows brings to life the devotion given to us by St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373) to recall and meditate on the seven specific events of pain and sorrow the Blessed Mother endured in compassion during Her life and for the suffering and death
of Her Divine Son.

The devotion of Our Lady of Sorrows invites us to console and to compassionate the Sorrowful Heart of the Blessed Mother since there are no sorrows like the sorrows of Her Sorrowful Heart
(Lamentations 1:12) and to unite our sufferings and sorrows to Hers.
The devotion of Our Lady of Sorrows can be practiced through the
Sorrowful Mother Meditations found on the back of this card.
The Promises Attendant to the Devotion
St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373) reported that Our Lady promised to grant seven graces to those who honor her and draw near to Her and Her Son every day by recalling and meditating on her sorrows:
1. I will grant peace to their families.
2. They will be enlightened about the Divine Mysteries.
3. I will console them in their pains and will accompany them in their work.
4. I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable Will of my Divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.
5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.
6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death - they will see the face of their Mother.
7. I have obtained this grace from My Divine Son: that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and sorrows will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and My Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.
THE HOLY LOVE SORROWFUL MOTHER MEDITATIONS
Given by Our Lady to Visionary Maureen Sweeney-Kyle, September 1997 and September 2011
Following each traditional Sorrow, find the “Present Day Sorrow”
Blessed Mother has shared.
After reciting each Sorrow, say one Our Father, one Hail Mary and one All Glory Be.
First: The Prophecy of Simeon
“I invite you to meditate upon My knowledge of all future Sorrow which
was given to Me by God at the Presentation.”
“Hearts of unbelievers – most especially those who propagate error.”
Second: The Flight Into Egypt
“I invite you to meditate upon the anxiety in the hearts of Joseph and Myself for the safety of Baby Jesus, and the anxiety I feel today for those who run from salvation.”
“Misuse of authority – politically or ecclesiastically.”
Third: The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple
“I invite you to meditate upon the pain of separation I felt when Jesus was lost.
This is a pain all should feel when they separate themselves
from My Son through sin.”
“Disrespect for human life from conception to natural death.”
Fourth: The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross
“I invite you to meditate upon the pain of My Heart as I saw the physical pain
My Son suffered due to lack of love in hearts.
Also think of the pain I suffer today for lack of love in hearts.”
“The obtuse conscience of the heart of the world in discernment of sin,
and the difference between good and evil.”
Fifth: The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
“I invite you to meditate upon the pain of a Mother’s Heart at the death of Her Son, and the virtue of forgiveness I received through grace and prayer.
Think of My pain at the sight of the death of the unborn.”
“Lack of respect for personal holiness.”
Sixth: The Taking Down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross
“I invite you to meditate upon the acceptance of Divine Will that I surrendered to. Ask for that same grace in your life now.”
“Neglect of love of God and neighbor.”
Seventh: The Burial of Jesus
“I invite you to meditate upon the understanding I had, as My Son was placed in the tomb, that death was a beginning and not an end. Think of the extreme sorrow I felt as I cleansed His Wounds.
My sorrow was, as it is today, for the lack of love in hearts.”
